Relationship between Psychiatric Patients¢¥ Family Environmental Variables and Their Aggression

Kee Baik-Seok

Abstract
The purpose of the study was aimed to examine the relationship between psychiatric patients¢¥ family environmental variables and their aggression, and to collect baseline data for the establishment of effective management program against unpredictable aggressive behaviors.
Sampling were performed through three stage clustered random sampling method, and questionnaires were applied to a total 428 psychiatric inpatient including 259 men and 179 women.
The data was processed by IBM PC AT computer, using SPSS program. Stastistical methods employed in this study were Wilk¢¥s Lambda, analysis of variance, stepwise multiple regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
The result was as follows:
1) It showed that the all pathological family environmental variables tended to increase psychiatric patients¢¥ aggression. In the relative strength of influencing their aggressive behavior, maternal child-rearing practice showed highest predictability factor. Thereafter variables of family satisfaction influenced their aggressive behavior through aggressive impulse indirectly.
2) Pathological paternal rearing practice, unstable family, and pathological parent-child relationship promoted to pathological maternal practices and unstatisfaction of family members, and indirectly increased their aggression.
